In the EU, PET bottles will no longer go to the PET recycling point without a cap. From the summer of 2024, the tethered cap for PET bottles will be mandatory according to the EU regulation. Unscrew the bottle, till the lid backwards, let it click and drink. What does PackSys Global have to do with it?
Ueli Kobel our International Sales Manager & Product Manager Beverage & Specialties Division says: “Politics defined the guidelines, the industry developed creative solutions and we implemented the innovative process technologies - together to protect the environment.”
We have combined smart design solutions with the right manufacturing technology. This means that our machines can produce tethered beverage container closures throughout Europe that comply with the requirements of the EU regulation. This does not necessarily require a new slitting and folding machine. Our solutions can also be integrated into many existing PackSys Global machines. In this way, tethered closures can be produced in different designs or according to the requirements and wishes of the beverage manufacturer. Our MSM and SDL slitting and folding machines for plastic closures can be easily upgraded with smarTether or experTether technology. The CapCompass technology was developed for the TEM. What exactly smarTether, experTether and CapCompass mean has already been described in detail in the article tethered beverage container closures.
Critics claim that more plastic will be used in the production of the new beverage closures. We are convinced that the opposite will be the case. One of our customers was able to reduce the amount of material used per PET bottle when developing new caps for Coca-Cola. 1.37 grams of plastic are saved per bottle. So, if you drink a drink from Coca-Cola every day, you will save half a kilogram of PET per year in the future. That's definitely not a little.
There has been a lot of talk about tethered closures in recent weeks. Here are a few links:
